The situation in Kenya
Kenyan life seems back to normal, following the difficult start to 2008. Today, people are trying to heal the rifts and hatred that grew out of the violence. The towns that were burnt in Western Province are now almost back to normal, just a few burnt structures remain as a reminder of the bloodshed.

Unfortunately due to the violence and global economic situation, life is more difficult for Kenyans with spiralling food prices, hunger and more disease due to lack of food causing weaker immune systems.

Community Outreach staff are observing more cases of typhoid, kwashiorkor, and malaria which high after a very long rainy season.

The education system is facing many challenges. The announced “free secondary education” has not given access to all students as hoped. While enrolment in secondary schools was high this year, in poor areas many students have been unable to pay fees and have returned home. More on this here.

However, even though times are tough in Kenya, the Kenyans we come into contact with are remaining positive and Community Outreach continues to work and assist on many valuable and much needed projects.
