Youth
& Resource Centres
The Youth Centre was the first project implemented by Community Outreach in
Emuhaya, Kenya in 2004. A second Centre was opened in Teso
district in 2009. They provide free training to young people who would otherwise be at home
unemployed. They are also places for young people to develop
activities such as drama, sports
and choir and to socialize. Since these Centres opened, more than
1'000 young
people have been trained in basic computer
skills. Several young people have been able to find jobs in nearby towns
using the skills learned at these Centres. |
These Centres are also places where activities for younger children can be run
after school or during school holidays. The
Resource Centre in Kakemer (Teso) works with two local government
schools giving primary school children their first introduction to
computers and secondary school students enjoy computer studies as
an extra curriculum subject. The children also have access to
board games playing chess, puzzles, mastermind, etc
